Solinst 101 Water Level Meters
P/N 11145
The Solinst Model 101 is now available with the "New" P7 laser marked tape or the Model 101 P2 with embossed tape. Both offer the reliability you expect from Solinst for measuring the depth of water in wells, boreholes and standpipes. The Model 101 Water Level Meter is the most accurate meter. It is sturdy, easy-to-repair and
read to 1/100 ft. or to each millimeter.
Also available, from Solinst, are the less expensive laser
marked Model 102 Coaxial Cable Water Level Meter for use
in small diameter tubes, and the 102M Mini laser marked
Water Level Meter in lengths of 80 ft. and 25 m. (See Model
102 Data Sheet).

Solinst 101 Water Level Meter with P7 Probe
The NEW Solinst 101 Water Level Meter with P7 Probe features an extremely durable, laser marked PVDF flat tape, with an enhanced dog bone design that is thicker, reducing adherence to the side of well casing.
The PVDF flat tape is laser marked every 1/100 ft or each mm; lengths up to 6000 ft (1800 m). New flat tape has increased tensile strength and electrical efficiency by using 6 strands of copper coated stainless steel and 13 strands of stainless steel in each conductor. The P7 Water Level Meter Probe is engineered to allow submersion to 1000 ft. (300 m), replacing the 101 P6 Submersible Probe. Sensor at the tip of the probe provides consistently accurate measurements in wells, boreholes, and cascading water, with almost zero displacement.
Enhanced Laser Marked Tape Features:
- Durable PVDF non-stretch tape
- Improved electrical properties
- Thicker dog bone design prevents clinging to sides
of the well
- Permanently laser marked every 1/100 ft. or each mm
Solinst 101 P2 Water Level Meters
The Solinst 101 P2 Water Level Meters use non-stretch polyethylene flat tape, with heat embossed markings each 1/100 ft. or mm. Designed for measuring accurate water levels in wells and boreholes, the rugged free-standing reel is well balanced and ideal for use in the field. The 101 P2 Water Level Meter Probe is very easy to repair. Available in flat tape lengths to 6000 ft. (or 1800 m).
Operating Principles
The Model 101 Water Level Meter uses a choice of probe
designs, attached to a permanently marked polyethylene
tape, fitted on a well-balanced reel. It is powered by a
standard 9 volt battery housed in an easy-access battery
drawer. The conductors embedded within the tape, each
have seven strands of stainless steel for strength and flexibility.
The probe incorporates an insulating gap between electrodes.
When contact is made with water, the circuit is completed,
activating a loud buzzer and a light. The water level is then
determined by taking a reading directly from the tape at the
top of the well casing or borehole.
A sensitivity control allows the buzzer to be turned off while
in cascading water, and ensures a clear signal in both high and
low conductivity conditions.
Tape Specifications
The high quality polyethylene tape reels smoothly, remains
flexible and hangs straight in the well, irrespective of
temperature. Permanent markings at each millimeter or
1/100 ft. allow accurate readings, traceable to national
standards. The 3/8" (10 mm) wide tapes come in lengths up
to 6000 ft. (1800 m).
Stranded stainless steel conductors resist corrosion, provide
strength and are non-stretch. They make the tape very easy
to repair and splice. The dog-bone design reduces adherence
to wet surfaces. Markings are permanently impregnated onto
one side of the tape in your choice of scale.
