RAE Systems Tubes and Pumps

RAE Systems

When you need fast detection of gasses and vapors, a RAE Systems hand pump equipped with gas detection tubes offers an affordable solution for personal protection and environmental monitoring. Detection tubes are available for over 30 different gasses, including carbon monoxide, benzene, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide and more, in a range of different resolutions.

Gas detection tubes use gas diffusion and colorimetric reaction principles to provide accurate readings of time-weighted average concentrations for up to eight hours. When combined with a RAE Systems Hand Pump, the tubes provide on-the-spot readings that let you know your exposure levels right away. Tubes can be chemically reset for re-use.

Colorimetric Gas Detection Tubes
RAE Systems' large selection of Colorimetric Gas Detection Tubes offer quick, on-the-spot measurements of many gases and vapors at low cost. The tubes are easy to read with a sharp, clear color change and provide accuracy with no need for calibration.

Operating Principles

RAE Systems' hand pumps are easy to use in field conditions. Follow these steps to get accurate, immediate readings of gas exposure levels:

  • Use the tip breaker located on the side of the pump to break off both ends of the gas detection tube, leaving about 1mm left.
  • Insert the tube until the tip falls securely into the reservoir at the end of the pump shaft.
  • Align the red dots on the plunger and pump shaft. Quickly draw the handle back to the assigned volume — a 1/2 stroke indicates 50 ml and a full stroke 100.
  • Wait the required sampling time while the end-of-flow indicator returns to its normal brightness.
  • If necessary, turn the pump hand a 1/4 turn to complete additional strokes as required.

Obtaining a Reading

RAE Systems gas detection tubes will provide an immediate reading — the gas concentration will display directly on the tube as the furthest distance where a color change is visible. The tube instructions will indicate which, if any, correction factors need to be applied for an accurate reading.
