Solinst 615 Drive-Point Piezometer

The Solinst 615 Drive-Point Piezometer is an affordable solution for shallow groundwater and soil vapor monitoring that nonetheless delivers reliably high-quality samples in a number of different situations. The 615 can be used as a permanent well point or for short-term monitoring of groundwater VOCs, base flow, water levels and underground storage tanks (UST). Other potential applications include contaminant plume delineations, soil gas sampling and site assessments.

Models

Three versions of the 615 Drive-Point Piezometer are offered by Solinst:

• 615: The standard 615 can be used for temporary or permanent applications and installs easily with direct push or drilling equipment.
• 615 S: The 615 S is equipped with a single-use shield that’s especially useful for permanent installations. The shield protects the filter screen from smearing or plugging and features a stronger O-ring style top connector which prevents contamination from higher levels.
• 615 N: Unlike other models, the 615 N lacks a tubing barb, making it easier for water level meters to obtain accurate measurements.

Tubing and Connection Options

The 615 can be connected to 3/4" NPT steel drive piping or to higher-quality Teflon® or low-density polyethylene (LDPT)-lined tubing for enhanced sample quality. Thermoplastic-lined piping prevents samples from accidental contamination caused by contact with carbon steel extension rods. Piping can also be pressure-fitted directly to the drive point, providing an air-tight seal. Heavy-duty couplings are also available, and they offer increased support to withstand the stresses of a difficult installation and deliver more accurate alignment.

Accessories

A number of accessories are designed specifically for use with the narrow-diameter 615 self-drive piezometer:

• Pumps: Two Solinst pumps are suitable for use with the 615. The 410 Peristaltic Pump uses the suction lift principle to provide a steady flow at depths up to 33 feet below sea level. The 404 WaTerra Pump can also be used for extracting samples from depths of up to 74 feet.
• Water Level Meters: Solinst 102, Narrow Tape 101 and 101M Water Level meters can all be used to gain accurate hydraulic head readings with the 615 series of piezometers.
• 429 Miniature Point Source Bailer: With a 1/2" diameter, the 429 bailer is suitable for use in narrow-diameter piezometers such as the 615.

Also available is the Solinst Manual Slide Hammer, an inexpensive, easily-transportable tool for wellpoint installation of the 615 and other Solinst drive-point piezometers.
