Looking for a cost effective carbon filter system for removing VOCs and other contaminants? Environmental Equipment & Supply manufactures a five gallon carbon filter system for use in various environmental projects, including low flow sampling, well water purging and general purpose site remediation. Our improved carbon system comes with a screw on lid making carbon replacement easy. Handy for discharging purge water when sampling, internal piping provides even distribution across the carbon, increasing its effectiveness. Bucket is ideal for pressures less than 5 PSI.
Other features include a replaceable sock pre-filter for keeping silt and other particulate from clogging the unit. All our filtration systems come loaded with 25 lbs of organic granular activated carbon; the unit is refillable with replacement media, available in 55 lb bags.
About Carbon Filtration Systems
GAC is produced from several different raw carbon sources, including charcoal, coconut shells, bituminous coal petroleum pitch and anthracite. GAC is chemically inert, non-volatile and contains no hazardous materials.
Granular carbon filtration systems take advantage of GAC's extreme mircoporousness - one gram of activated carbon can have a surface area of more then 500m2. Greater surface area means a greater adsorptive capacity, which makes GAC ideal for use as a filtration media.
Granular activated carbon is considered a best available technology (BAT) by the US EPA for removal of the following contaminants:
- disinfection byproducts
- mercury and cadmium
- natural organic matter
- synthetic organic chemicals, including VOCs such as benzo(a)pyrene and hexachlorobenzene
- radionuclides
How Carbon Filtration Systems Work
A carbon filter system can be attached to tubing going from a groundwater source to a pump, bailer or other device; as water passes through the filtration media, VOCs, SVOCs and other pollutants adhere to the activated carbon. The large surface area of activated carbon allows it to filter more pollutants than other media.
Environmental Equipment & Supply carbon filtration systems work best at flow rates between one and three gallons per minute at 5 psi. Use our carbon filtration systems for the following applications:

- Removing VOC byproducts in painting, dry cleaning and petroleum processing facilities.
